Are you holding your book correctly?

If you experience any neck or back pain while reading you may need to assess how you’re holding your book.

Follow the tips below to minimise any strain or pain, and maximise your enjoyment!

  • Find a position (whether sitting or lying) where your back, neck and shoulders are fully supported, this may mean adding a pillow or similar to support you where needed
  • Don’t bend the neck excessively to get closer to your book. A straight, supported neck will prevent pinching and fatigue, your book ideally should be at eye level
  • Don’t forget about your legs and feet, if you’re sitting in a chair make sure your legs are uncrossed and your feet are supported
  • As with anything; take a break if you feel you need it!
